Battery Storage and Podpoint EV Charger Retrofit in Kingswood, Surrey

This installation in Kingswood, Surrey is for a different kind of customer to most of our portfolio. The property already had solar. What it did not have was anywhere to put the surplus, or a sensible way to charge the family car. Both were solved without touching the original array.

Adding storage to solar you already own

Rather than replacing or upgrading the existing system, our team integrated a 6kWh SolaX battery and SolaX inverter alongside the setup already in place. That captured surplus generation which had previously been exported to the grid at low Smart Export Guarantee rates, and made it available inside the home through the evening and overnight instead. The retrofit was completed cleanly with no disruption to the existing system's operation.

If you had solar fitted before batteries became affordable, this is the upgrade worth looking at. There is no scaffolding, no roof work and no need to touch panels that are working perfectly well.

Alongside the battery we fitted a Podpoint Solo 3 home EV charger, one of the most popular and reliable home charging units in the UK. It delivers up to 7.2kW, works with all current electric vehicles, and connects to the Podpoint app for smart scheduling, charge history and energy monitoring.

The combination is what makes this one interesting. With the SolaX battery in place, the homeowner can schedule EV charging to draw from stored solar rather than the grid, which means charging the car on electricity the roof generated earlier that day. Existing solar, retrofitted storage and a smart charger together turn grid electricity into a backup rather than a necessity.
